GROUP & PRIVATE GUIDED MEDITATIONS
an opportunity to connect with all that serves you and to let go of that which does not

Hello, I'm Shawnta Valdes and Sit with Shawnta is the place I needed when I first began to meditate. Wonderful teachers were plentiful, but I rarely (if ever) found myself with another Black woman or any POC. And that's important; so I decided to create what I was looking for. A place that would allow me, and anyone else looking just as I was for a place to feel at home. This is for the BIPOC & LGBTQIA+ community to gather and be at ease. To feel seen, heard and cared for. This is a place where allies are welcomed and we recognize the work we all have to do. This is a place that uses justice as a lens in all areas & interactions. People with trauma related issues (past or present), people in recovery, disordered eating of any kind - - all of it. This is a space for you, this is a space for us.
Multiple studies have shown meditation raises the levels of concentration and attention. It enhances imagination and creativity, patience and tolerance, and helps with depression and anxiety.
Science, as well as our own experiences, reveal mindfulness practices can help manage stress and release tension, reduce negative emotions and quiet down that awful, ever present internal voice of doom.

Shawnta facilitates meditation with the kindest and most honest attention I’ve ever experienced. Her ability to help me ground myself and offer my body rest — regardless of the state — its in is truly one the best gifts of my life.

I've realized that words simply cannot describe how impactful sitting with her and her influence has been for me. Shawnta's teaching reaches beyond meditation to managing anxiety, fostering self-compassion and finding ease. I am beyond thankful to be able to practice with Shawnta. These skills that I have learned will serve me for decades to come.

Something about Shawnta’s no-pressure-to-join-and-I-mean-it invitation to sit with her made me feel it was safe to explore the idea of a casual meditation practice. It’s been almost 2.5 years now, and meditating with Shawnta is definitely an essential part of my life that I can’t imagine being without.

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land upon which I gather in Los Angeles, the Tongva people and their elders past and present. And, as we gather in a connected community online, we also acknowledge the traditional custodians of all lands, the indigenous peoples and their elders past and present.
