In this space you will find the names of people, places, things and ideas I support via free meditation services, financial donations or volunteering my time. My intention is to uplift, amplify and promote the good work of others. Check back often to see what's been added!
The mission of Miry’s List is to improve the experience for new arrival families by filling gaps in the governmental system of support for refugees, and providing a mechanism for our community of supporters to directly help families with the things, people and programming needed to thrive in the United States. Miry's List uses crowdsourcing and social media to connect people like you, who want to help, with new refugee families who have needs that are not completely met by the organizations that sponsor them. Our team works together with the family to create a list of items needed to turn their house into a home. With the help of our wonderful volunteers, each family’s needs are turned into a shoppable online wishlist which we share broadly to our generous community of donors. Each family has unique needs - many with small children, elderly grandparents or members with disabilities. Housewarming gifts are sent to families directly, and many include a gift message.
At Choose Love, we do whatever it takes to provide refugees and displaced people with everything from lifesaving search and rescue boats to food and legal advice. We elevate the voices and visibility of refugees and galvanize public support for agile community organizations providing vital support to refugees along migration routes globally. A shop like no other, here shoppers can buy real items and life-saving interventions which will go to refugees and displaced people across the world. Not every shop can claim that everything it sells will change a life, but for ours, that’s the truth.
Over the last 7 years, we’ve supported almost 4 million (3,860,000) people worldwide. With all of our partners, we’ve distributed more than 5 million hot meals, almost 3 million nappies, and over 650,000 items of clothing. We’ve also rescued over 20,000 people at sea, funded almost 200,000 medical consultations, supported more than 130,000 legal cases and built almost 600,00 shelters.
Dāna is a PALI word that translates to generosity. I live in interdependence with you, my community and desire to share all I've learned, with those who want it. It is my wish to never exclude anyone due to a lack of money. Danā isn't about payment for goods and services, but funds offered from the heart to sustain me, so I may continue to do this wonderful work. I invite you to please give what you can and I truly thank you. If you have the resources and would like to offer more than the class fee at any time, it is received with deep gratitude; know you are making a way for those who have less financial resources to be here.
Angel Donations are funds given to cover the cost for those who do not have the financial resources to attend Sit With Shawnta classes, courses and programming (ex. A Year to Live, Poetry & Creative Writing retreats). Thank you for supporting your community with this act of generosity.
In an effort to be as inclusive as possible and not wishing to contribute to ableist language, I would like to offer some clarity. The word SIT, as I use it, does not mean sitting in the literal sense. I'm sure we've all seen the images of a serene being with eyes closed and legs crossed. For those who find that posture beneficial to their practice, keep it up! But that's not for everyone. When I invite you to SIT with me, I am talking about "sitting in a state of meditation" with a calm and settled mind. Resting the body and enjoying a state of deep ease. I am here to encourage and help all people find the best posture for them given their physical abilities.
